Summer Camp

New Sprouts Chinese Summer Camp is a 4-week Mandarin language program, infused with fun cultural activities for your child, and taught by experienced bilingual Chinese teachers. No prior knowledge of Chinese is necessary for this camp. Your child will have fun learning Chinese by participating in theme-based activities including: arts & crafts, dance & movement, stories, music, games, brush painting, cooking, special visitors, and more. Each week’s cultural focus is unique and includes a local field trip, science workshop, and take-home projects. Your child will come home from this summer camp enriched in Chinese culture, language and friendship.

Details of New Sprouts Chinese Summer Camp
Session 1: July 26-30 Chinese Puppetry
Session 2: August 2-6 Chinese Planting & Cooking
Session 3: August 9-13 Chinese Folk & Modern Games
Session 4: August 16-20 Chinese Adventure & Recreation
Parent Orientation Date: Saturday, July 24, 10:30 am to 11:30 am


Time: Program is from 9:00am – 3:00pm.
Extended care is available from 3-6pm.
Where: Lake Merritt United Methodist Church
1255 First Avenue, Oakland, CA 94606
For: Children entering grades K-6th by Fall 2010 (ages 4.5 to 11).
Children will be grouped according to age and ability levels.
Tuition: $280 for 1 week, $580 for 2 weeks, $798 for 3 week, $1008 for all
4 weeks. Extended care is $75/week. Sibling discount is 10%.

Weekly Themes
 
Week 1: Chinese Puppetry

Campers will have a chance to watch a puppet show, meet a puppet master, create their own puppets and props, and put on a puppet show!

 
Week 2: Chinese Planting & Cooking

Campers will learn about Chinese vegetables and gardening, grocery shopping in Chinatown, and cook some authentic Chinese dishes!

 
Week 3: Chinese Folk & Modern Games

Campers will explore and have fun with Chinese folk and modern games, create their own game props, and demonstrate how to play the games!

 
Week 4: Chinese Adventure & Recreation

Campers will play popular Chinese sports, meet a Gong Fu master, and participate in a field sports competition!
